Abuse in Teenage Relationships Rising
Posted on: 02.16.2008
Abuse in general can only be reported when one being abused sheds the light to authorities. Its safe to say that many teens don’t want to be embarrased, so they keep this abuse under covers. Given that, its amazing to hear of a recent study. This study found that nearly half of teenage girls report they have suffered verbal, physical or sexual abuse by their boyfriends.
Generally, the abuse usually starts out very subtle like verbal abuse or jealousy and then escalates as time goes on. The stat that stood out the most was the following: Those who have had sex by age 14 had the highest rates of abuse.
Family and community need to work together to send the proper message out!
